Dr Sarah Gardiner has a PhD in Marketing and is a Senior Lecturer in tourism at Griffith University. Sarah is passionate about tourism in Queensland and has worked for over two decades in the private and government sectors of the industry. For seven years, she was the Senior Industry Development Officer Tourism for City of Gold Coast and was involved in several projects that developed the youth, nature-based and food tourism experiences in the region.
Through her research and industry engagement, she has helped many tourism businesses innovate and develop new tourism products, including working with Get Wet Surf School who was the recipient of the QTIC 2016 Prize for Innovation. She recently designed the Tourism and Events Queensland “Creating WOW Experiences” videos and workbooks.
She has undertaken several research projects and consultancies relating to strategy, marketing and consumer demand for tourism. She has a particular interest in domestic tourism as well as the nexus between youth, adventure and education tourism, chiefly in relation to developing the Chinese independent travel market. She has also published several book chapters and research papers in leading international academic journals as well as written many industry research reports and strategies on these topics. Her latest research investigates the role of technology and Smartphone apps in delivering visitor experiences.
